EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH
The Educational Outreach department conducts the following programs:
Student Awareness Days
Student Awareness Days are prejudice reduction symposia whereby 250 to 800 high school students at each program learn the dangers of racism, hatred, and bigotry through videos, lectures, and round-table discussions with Survivors of the Holocaust.
Speakers' Bureau
The Center fulfills requests for speakers in schools, community organizations, churches, and synagogues.
Teachers' Institute
Our institute provides in-service credits to teachers from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties public schools. Three hours of university graduate credit toward recertification can also be obtained.
Student Act of Kindness Contest
We are asking students to share their "acts of kindness" with us and how they changed someone's life. We will award the top ten entries with a $100 United States Savings Bond, and each of the winners will have their names inscribed on our wall of "Students Making a Difference."
Student Visual Arts and Writing Contest
Our contest for 2011-2012 began September 1, 20011 and will end May 4, 2012. This year's theme is The Holocaust Remembered: How Can I Stop the Hatred, Prejudice, and Bullying?
State of Florida Resource Manuals on Holocaust Education
The State of Florida Department of Education commissioned the Center to write the first statewide resource manuals on Holocaust studies for grades K-3, 4-6, and 9-12. These manuals, plus the manuals for grades 7-8, have been distributed to all private, public, and parochial schools in the state of Florida. They are available to teachers on CD and can also be downloaded here for educational use.
